  1. It is a unique story with Chinese culture as the background. If you want to know how the kids in Hong Kong lived, this is a perfect book for you. There are many interesting Chinese terms which I did not understand at first, but found them in the glossary in the end. I really want to try the fascinating Chinese dessert – Dan Lai which inspired the girl to be the author as well. Anyway, this is a book you don’t want to miss. Also the writing style and the title of the story is really special, it is a free verse poem.

    • Thanks for your comments Cynthia! I enjoyed reading your thoughts about the book. I’m glad you remembered to write your thoughts about the book on the Sakura blog!

  2. I thought it was a extrodinary book because it was written like a poem book.
Even the chapter tittles seem to be a tittle for the poem!

  3. I liked how the story was written using poetry. The author described how girls in Hong Kong were treated a long time ago. I think it’s unfair that only boys can go to good schools. Yeung Ying dreamed of becoming a writer and her mother and father worked hard to send her to a private school. I felt happy when Yeung Ying got her first story published. I hope that someday I can be a good writer like her.

  4. This autobiography was really good and taught me a little about Chinese culture.

  5. I really liked the part when Mr.Hon said that the best story was Yeung’s story was the best!

  6. This book was great. Some places weresad and others were sad.
