  1. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is a funny novel about Flavia, a witty young girl, who stumbles upon a mystery that involves her family. Her extensive knowledge on chemicals and poisons made me laugh throughout the story. I thought Flavia was like Scout Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird, because even though she’s smart, she lacks discretion.

  2. Flavia de Luce is passionate about poison. The mystery unfolds when she finds a dead bird on the doorstep, which is later followed by her discovery of a murdered man. It took me about two chapter to warm up in order to adjust to the writer’s style and know the characters well enough to appreciate the story. The occasional British humor and the characteristics of the protagonist allowed me to enjoy the book, but the pace of the story was a little slow for me.
