  1. This book is really interesting and this story tells the culture of Japan. This story tries to relate Japan and America and it makes it really interesting. I like the illustration too because the pictures show the difference between Japan and America. When you look at this title you could guess the story is about wakame gatherers in Japan because the illustration shows Japan . I think the story was really good but I couldn’t find the personality for each character. The story used a lot of imagery so it described the country Japan and the country America. I have a question to the author because I think that America grows wakame but in this story they said that there is no wakame in America.

    I give 3 stars out of 5

  2. The Wakame Gatherers written by Holly Thompson was a short but an enjoyable read. It showed the differences in the American and Japanese culture by choosing a traditional Japanese activity which was “Wakame Gathering”. The Japanese grandma teaches the American grandma how to gather wakame and then how to prepare it for a meal. All this takes place in Kamakura, a coastal town in Japan. The language used was very simple and it was very easy to read. I recommend this book to primary students who enjoy creative illustrations and who want to learn a bit more about Japanese culture.

My rating: 3 out of 5
