The books are read, the reviews are written, and the voting is done. Students at international schools across Japan have come together to make their voices heard, and have selected the following books as winners of the 2010 Sakura Medal:

I wanted to write to let you know how thrilled I am that the students of the International Schools of Japan voted Numbers as their favourite book and recipient of the Sakura Medal for 2010..

本日、ポプラ社より、サクラメダルと賞状を受け取りました。
思いがけない受賞に、驚くとともに、今回の受賞をたいへん光栄に存じます。
今回、インターナショナルスクールの生徒のみなさん方から高い評価をいただいたことを、心から喜んでおります。
「はなこ八月七日にひろったこねこ」は、私の家に実際にあったできごとをモデルに創作した作品です。
国や文化がちがったこどもたちにも、この本で私が表現したかったことを理解していただいたことに、言い知れぬ感動を覚えます。
